Foundation Course
Our foundation course enables trainees to get to grips with a sought-after and well-rewarded skill. We have our own commercial moulding shop and dedicated professional workforce, so we're uniquely placed to help our students with the one-to-one hands-on instruction this type of plasterwork demands. The five day foundation course can be counted as part of the four week advanced course (fees are adjusted accordingly).
It includes:
- How to make a mould
- Preparing the mould and taking a casting
- Taking a profile from existing plasterwork
- Installing moulded plasterwork
- 'Making good', ready for decoration
- Repairs to existing plasterwork
- Running in situ or bench
- Setting out a room and installing moulded plasterwork
Advanced Course
The four week advanced course enables qualified students to work in some of the country's most prestigious buildings including stately homes, banks, embassies and palaces. You'll get plenty of practice to perfect your technique as well as expert instruction on the following:
- preparing original moulds and producing ornate, fibrous castings
- cutting and running straight, oval and radius fibrous mouldings
- Setting out domes, coffers and lighting troughs
- Correct use of reinforcing elements
- Designing and creating new moulds
- Cutting and running new models
- Casting with fibrous (various forms)
- Laying down enrichments
- Setting out the walls and ceilings
- Fixing the moulded plaster castings
